Sonic 3D Blast

Sonic Team, Traveller's Tales

Despite the name, this didn't feel like a 3D game at all - that was a marketing stunt. Instead it was played on Marble Madness-like isometric maps, so while technically the game played in three dimensions it felt more like a top-down adventure.

I was kind of annoyed at it at the time, and isometric platformers tend to be hard to control no matter what you do. But in retrospect, for its limitations this was actually not terrible. It even worked in some fairly memorable boss battles.
