Commonplace

FTL

Released in 2012 by Matthew Davis and Justin Ma. Addictive, and very well-done for its subject matter, but I fall into the trap of comparing it to other roguelikes and wishing for many of their attributes - the speed of Spelunky, the convenience features and strategic variety of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, the simulation of Dwarf Fortress. I want my movement to have more meaning, and I want more strategic variety. It might arise with more playtime logged though.

I briefly met Justin Ma at Indiecade where he was showing off this game. Writing updated notes in 2021 I'm not sure what I was really criticizing here, it's a great game. Even better is their followup Into The Breach.
