Diddy Kong Racing

Released by Rare in 1997. I never owned this, but I played it at a friend's house down the street. This seemed like such a big leap over Mario Kart 64 at the time - having three types of vehicles was amazing, and the explorable hub world (even in multiplayer!) was something we hadn't seen much of. I'd say this specifically captures a multiplayer gaming experience I haven't seen many times since.
