A weird science fiction open world rogue, and a 20-year project for two creators. Hit v1.0 in late 2024/early 2025, so I thought it was a good time to jump in. Known for an interesting mix of authored content and procedural generation: The overworld map is fixed, as are some of the town maps, characters, and quest lines. The history of the world and most of its granular details are generated, so the actual maps you wander, villages and caves you find, loot and merchants, change from game to game. There are named dungeons that have a recognizable template (Red Rock, Rust Wells, Golgotha) with similar “architecture” and environs each time, but the specific layouts are generated.
I played maybe 15 hours in early 2025, first a tutorial game with the Marsh Taurus archetype, then a bird-person gunslinger, then tried a “True-kin” cyborg. I met an underground village of scientist bears and a philosopher-gorilla, was chased by giants, contacted a disease that fused my leg bones together, was eaten by an alligator after an unlucky jungle landing.
It is one of those loot-heavy (and heavy loot - weight limits!) games where you spend a lot of your time in your inventory screen, so you have to be ready for that. I find it addictive.
