Played quite a bit of this on NES at Jimmy Houf's house. An early-ish experience with some common mechanics including:

  * Characters with different special attacks
  * Friendly fire settings
  * Ability to use another player's extra lives if you run out. This effectively makes them a shared pool, but the fact of transferring "ownership" of the life from one player to another made it a point of discussion when playing.
