====== Steve Jackson's Sorcery! ====== The Inkle version. One of my favorite games of all time, thought it might not be for everybody: A videogame adaptation of a series of gamebooks from the mid-80s. That is to say - it's kind of a CYOA, but with some added RPG mechanics. The strength of this is how it opens up. The story has four parts, and while the first has more inevitable forward progress, it later has situations that are more like a classic adventure game where you're wandering in circles looking for the right clue. There are lots of small stories packed into the large one, and the last part memorably "plays with the box" of the format, messing with your undo capability. There's a clever magic system that opens even more possibilities. Also, the whole thing is executed with such incredible polish and being able to play something with this depth comfortably on a phone is a big win. Looks like I purchased parts 1 and 2 back in 2015, but I think I played through the whole collection in 2018. I'm writing this in 2026 and can't believe I haven't done more writing on it in the past. Coming to mind now because Roadwarden shares a lot of this DNA.
