====== Roadwarden ====== Started while Alleson is recovering from surgery in May 2026. My run might get interrupted by [[Mina the Hollower]]'s release though. I am absolutely in the pocket for this game! It reminds me of another favorite, [[Steve Jackson's Sorcery!]], in the level of trust it's putting in the player and the impressive amount of freedom afforded within what is essentially a gamebook / CYOA. I think I'm failing, //hard//, on this first run, but I'm still having a heck of a time. In reviews I've seen mixed responses to the time pressure and the stress it produces. I've found it generous enough, and I expect it's thematically important. "Where do I spend my time" is one of the great essential questions of being alive, and a question I think storygames are especially fit for exploring, because they can robustly model consequences, and because you can go back and ask "what if I'd spent my time another way?" [[80 Days]] takes a similar approach. [[Pentiment]] is a bit looser but uses limited time to great effect. {{tag>videogame played "played in 2026" "played on PC"}}
