This blew up everywhere, including at my elementary school. I was already playing the [[Star Wars CCG]] at the time and remember thinking that Pokemon cards seemed relatively simplistic, and its use of damage counters inelegant. Looking back, I'm sure I judged it too quickly. The game is certainly designed for accessibility and had very broad appeal. But I didn't get into collecting and mostly watched this phenomenon from a distance.
