Searching for something like [[Molez]] and [[Bomberman]] and in the middle of a DOS shareware phase I found Minebombers, a fairly polished Bomberman clone with an arcade-like winnings/purchase system and a wide selection of weapons.  It used much larger maps than Bomberman.
