====== Flames of Gold ====== I attempted to make an adventure game in Visual Basic when I was 15, back in 2002. I didn't get very far. I had a map panel with a fog-of-war, and I think a text area describing locations as you visited them. I'm pretty sure it had a slot machine and a little turn-based combat minigame. I really didn't know what I was doing. I'm pretty sure I spent more time composing [[https://web.archive.org/web/20020908133322/http://home.teleport.com/~ksb/FOG.MID|this theme music]] than actually building the game. Here's a description of the game I wrote at the time: > Flames of Gold is a text-based adventure game. You are given the role of a noble man on a small island who is trying to save the island by retrieving the fire stone. This game is filled with much satire and other humor of all sorts, along with senseless Liface-style quips and quotes, and even a movie script. Anger monsters with insults such as "You fight like a gerbil-flavored asphalt pancake" and bowl with the worst of them! Explore such incredible locales such as the small town of Arctri, the Pass of the Herald, the Charcoal Woods and the Flaming Fortress! All this for only 9.99 with an eternal 9.99 discount, bringing the total to FREE! Yes, it's freeware ladies and gents, and if you want it it can be yours to own! All I ask is that you send me an e-mail at frozenisles_dude@yahoo.com To let me know that you got the game! Download away! > > Download v.1.1 Now! (Alpha) Thanks to Liface for hosting this on his site. > > Known Bugs - > > * To use an item in your inventory, type "use" and then the name of the item. > * Whenever you use an item, a message box saying "Start useItem" will pop up. Don't worry aout this. It was just for debugging purposes. I will fix it in the next build. > * Yes, you can't go anywhere other than Arctri yet. At least you can't get stuck outside. > * In the bowling alley the Virtuabattle game is much improved. See if you can get to all 6 virtuabots! > * The archery range and Inn are incomplete. Old website I put up for it: https://web.archive.org/web/20020605005938/http://home.teleport.com/~ksb/advgame.htm {{tag>videogame played "played on PC" "played in 2002" "I made this"}}
